Smalleys Beach

Smalleys Beach is a low cost campsite located 12km east of Seaforth via Cape Hillsborough Road and Smalleys Beach Road in the Mackay Region of Queensland. It is surrounded by the Cape Hillsborough National Park and adjacent to Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

You’ll feel right at home in this shady camping area that is right on the beach and just a stone’s throw from walking tracks. Launch your boat at the nearby boat ramp and spend your days exploring the nearby coves, islands and reefs of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

The campsite is situated at the end of a gravel road that is suitable for most vehicles in good weather. With views of the Whitsunday islands, this camping area is an excellent place to spend a week or two. There are 11 sites here all together but not all are suitable for high vehicles due to low branches and close trees. The first five sites are the best for these vehicles but extreme care still needs to be taken. A map of the camping area can be found here.

The north facing camping area at Smalleys Beach offers quite large camping sites with a surface of dirt and grass and there is easy access to the beach and walking tracks. Essentials to bring with you are sturdy rubbish bags, insect repellent, sun protection, first-aid kit and a reliable torch.

In Smalleys Beach camping area, you can have a camp fire in a BYO off-ground fire container only. You need to bring your own clean, milled timber.

Park Specific Conditions
Beware Marine Stingers (jellyfish)
Marine stingers (dangerous stinging jellyfish) may be present in coastal waters at any time, but occur more frequently in the warmer months. They have potent toxic stings that can cause serious illness and, in some cases, death. Visit tropical stingers for safety and first aid information.

Beware Crocodiles
Be croc-wise. Estuarine and freshwater crocodiles are potentially dangerous. Report crocodile sightings to CrocWatch.
