Long Waterhole

Located 4km south west of Winton, Long Waterhole is a free campsite on the banks of a billabong that is part of the Western River in the Winton Region of Central West Queensland.

Long Waterhole is man-made and was once used during the Outback Festival as the site for the World Crayfish Derby. There are no facilities here so you need to be self sufficient to stay here but the peace and quiet that the site offers makes up for for the lack of amenities. There are lots of birds and it is a great place to watch the sun go down.

There is quite a lot of room at this campsite but it can be dry and dusty which can be uncomfortable. There is some shade but no grass.

Because the campsite is in the middle of a river catchment area you need to be very aware of the weather. If it rains, the road in and also the campground surface itself can turn to very sticky mud very quickly.

To get here, travel south from Winton on the Winton-Jundah Road for 2km then turn left and travel along a dirt road for another 2kms. (source: www.experiencewinton.com.au)
