Barney’s Beach Camping Area

Located 2km from the township of Thallon, Barney’s Beach Camping Area is a free short term campsite on the banks of the Moonie River on Noondoo-Thalllon Road.

It is an informal rest area on the banks of the Moonie River near Thallon. It has lots of shady trees and ample room to park but offers no facilities so you must be a completely self sufficient camper. Care also needs to be taken in wet weather as the camping surface can become muddy and slippery.

Spend some relaxing time fishing for Yellowbelly or Murray Cod in the shade of the beautiful gum trees that line the banks of the Moonie River, with bait available at the Francis Hotel in Thallon. Enjoy the beautiful sunsets while watching the sulphur crested cockatoos settle in for the night.

To get to Barney’s Beach Camping Area turn west off the Carnarvon Highway at the northern entrance to Thallon onto Noondoo-Thalllon Road (signposted to Dirranbandi). Travel approximately 2 kilometres and the rest area is on the eastern side of the bridge that crosses the river on the southern side of the highway. (source: www.balonne.qld.gov.au/
