Ward River Camping Area

Located roughly 20km west of Charleville just off the Diamantina Development Road, Ward River Camping Area is a free short term bush campsite.

There are no facilities at this campsite so it is only suitable for self sufficient camping. It does offer good camping and fishing and you are able to launch a boat. Yellow Belly, Jewfish, Murray Cod, Black Bream, Spangled Perch, Red Claw and Blue Claw are all prized eating fish & crustaceans found in the Ward River.

Be self-sufficient including medical supplies, food and water, be vigilant of the weather (access & flooding), abide by local fishing laws and leave no trace of your visit. Remember, how you treat areas like this will dictate how long they remain open for use by your fellow travellers. (source: www.outbacknow.com.au)

To get to the Ward River Camping Area, follow the Diamantina Development Road west from Charleville for 19 km, then turn right onto the dirt track to the camping area. The area is signposted as Ward River Fishing and is on the east side of the river.

Please note that the access road to the Ward River Camping Area can get slippery in wet weather so it is only recommended for 2WD vehicles in dry weather.

The Ward River is a favourite with both visitors and locals alike and is where the local Fishing and Restocking Club hold their annual fishing competitions. (source: www.queenslandholidays.com.au)
