Barcoo Region

Camping and Caravanning in the Barcoo Region

Located deep in the heart of the Channel Country, this region is one of the more remote shires with an area of 61,974 square kilometres in far Western Queensland, incorporating the townships of Jundah, Stonehenge and Windorah. The main industries are beef, oil, wool, opal, tourism and macroped harvesting.

The Thomson River flows into the shire from the north, while the Barcoo River enters the east, merging to form Cooper Creek. This mosaic of channels flows on to Lake Eyre during the wet season.

Improved roads and facilities make this area an attractive outback holiday destination. Jundah, Stonehenge and Windorah are linked together by a sealed road that continues on to either Quilpie or Longreach, giving an unbroken sealed road access from the east coast.
