Rocky Creek War Memorial Park

Rocky Creek War Memorial Park is a low cost campsite located 23km south of Mareeba and 12km north of Atherton on the Kennedy Highway in the Tablelands Region of Far North Queensland.

The campsite is operated by the local council for the benefit of fully self contained travelers and the fees collected for staying here used to help with the upkeep of the park and its facilities aw well as the adjacent War Memorial. There is normally someone available on site to collect your fees.

The camping area of the park is a large open grassed area not far off the highway with a few trees around that provide some shade. Generators are not allowed to be used here and no open fires either and you MUST be fully self contained. The site is large enough to cater for big rigs.

The $5.00/night donation goes to support the War Memorial. The toilets are closed 6pm–8am.

Rocky Creek War Memorial Park is also home to a beautiful war memorial and every year on the Sunday closest to VP Day, returned soldiers, their families and descendants gather to remember Victory in the Pacific and to take part in a dedication and unveiling ceremony. Rocky Creek was the site of the largest military hospital in the Southern Hemisphere – a 3000 bed hospital which treated over 60,000 patients from 1943 to 1945. (source: www.trc.qld.gov.au)

There is some mobile phone service (depending on your carrier) and television reception here.

The maximum time limit for staying here is 72 hours.
