Lake HoudramanLocated approximately 6 km north of Quilpie on the Old Adavale Road, Lake Houdraman is a free short term campsite.

The lake itself is a beautiful natural expanse of water set amongst shady gum trees. Seasonally, thousands of glorious water lilies line the banks in the shallow water. This lush oasis is home to a vast array of birds and native animals, making it an ideal location to birdwatch and photograph some of Quilpie Shire’s unique wildlife. Only a ten minute drive from Quilpie, Lake Houdraman is an ideal spot for a scenic picnic, a refreshing swim, or to watch a magnificent sunset. Visiting this beautiful, natural lake teeming with native birds makes it difficult to believe this is outback Queensland.

Please keep in mind that Lake Houdraman is on Wanko Station which is a working sheep & cattle property and is private property. It is through the wonderful generosity of the owners that you are permitted to visit this tranquil oasis. Please treat this beautiful area with respect and do not drive elsewhere on the property.

There are no facilities at this campsite other than rubbish bins. Open fires are permitted but only when the weather permits. If there is a fire ban, obviously no fires are allowed. Please be aware that, due it the surroundings, you must be able to contain your own grey water when camping at Lake Houdraman. You cannot discharge over the ground! (source: www.quilpie.qld.gov.au)

From the Diamantina Developmental Road, take the Old Adavale Road east of Quilpie. The turnoff to Lake Houdraman is about 3.5km on the left. From this turn off it is about another 2km to the shaded camping area on the edge of Lake Houdraman.

Please remember this is a bush track so drive to the conditions. The road is suitable for caravans and camper trailers but only in good weather.

There is some mobile phone service (depending on your carrier) and television reception here.
Dogs are welcome at this campsite but please be responsible!

Facilities at Lake Houdraman are:

  • Rubbish Bins
